Does this help??

Each color is set up as a mirror image of the opposite side of the blank. The layer matching the other side must be the same thickness. You need to turn from the exact center of the middle layer to make both sides come out as a match.

Lots of turners make layered blanks, and then cut them on a diagonal. I couldn't see wasting that much wood, so I layered them straight and liked the effect when it was turned. I have made many many many of these.

Just be sure you hit the CENTER of the laminations when setting the blank up between centers, and you should be fine.
