The middle finger was reattached. Yesterday the surgeon said it was doing great.

DANG! Larry, I know what a trial this is for you and that nothing can be said to make it better but we've seen & been through a lot of stuff with you and you have ALWAYS gotten to the other side and kept that Uncle Fester grin. I'm gonna just watch & wait...and offer any support I can. AND, I'm glad it was not worse!
Hoping the healing is speedy and that you keep our friendship alive & well.

Don

Larry,
Tell us how this happened.
Were you pushing a board against the fence with hands on both sides if the blade?

You guys are so uplifting! With your help, I will get through it.

Zulu, I was cutting a piece of oak against the rip fence. I was making a baseboard and had lowered it over the blade about 3 in. from the end. I had gotten it flat on the table and was pushing it through with my left hand on the front and my right hand pushing it through. It must have gotten a little sideways and kicked back, pushing my left hand into the blade. It could have been a lot worse, I could have lost the entire fingers. The middle finger is the one they reattached.

Thanks, guys, for all your encouragement! This is still the greatest forum on the internet!

Larry,

So sorry to see and hear about this. Your attitude is inspiring, you have been through battles before and have come out victorious, I believe you will again in this challenge. What the enemy has stolen, I believe he will repay you 7-fold in return. You're every need is met, and no weapon formed against you will prosper.

Can't wait to hear your success story soon.

Yikes Larry, that picture of your hand is freaking me out a little bit. Back when I was a new woodworker I had encounters with a couple guys who had similar injuries. One I met in the emergency room - he took off 2 fingers with a chainsaw. Another guy removed his middle, index and thumb with a radial arm. That was more than 40 years ago and neither guy showed up at the hospital with his missing digits, probably because surgery like you had wasn't common then. Isn't progress amazing!

Anyway, let me know if you need anything, got a deadline or just want someone to help you clean up your saw. Seriously, I'm trying to retire and I'm just an hour up the road from you. Take it easy, keep it clean and thanks for sharing.

Jim

I went to see the surgeon today, and she said everything is looking great! They changed the splint to a smaller one and I can even flex the fingers a little bit again. It was very encouraging. Thanks, guys!
