I should already know this, but what should I use for a finish on cutting boards? I'm going to start making some, using cherry and maple. I would prefer something that General Finishes makes. Thanks very much!

Hey, Larry, I've used plain old mineral oil mixed with boiled linseed oil. General fiishes makes a 'butcher block oil. https://generalfinishes.com/wood-finish ... -block-oil

Be sure and let us see what you make!!

Mineral oil + beeswax works well, too. The formula I was given is about 6% beeswax by weight -
1 pint mineral oil
25g beeswax.
Heat gently and mix thoroughly. Cools to a thick paste.

Hey Larry,

I second the mineral oil and beeswax solution. I have used it on a dozen or so end block cutting boards. I usually give a bottle of the combination as a gift with a cutting board, along with instructions to apply some every month or so.

I usually use Howard's Butcher Block Conditioner

Cheers,
Tom
