Built this for my Grandson's room, he is due in July.

Now THAT is what it's ALL about! Fine craftsmanship and a lot of love. Those things we make for our grandkids bring out the finest of our passion....you did good, Ron!!
Is that birch? or poplar? What kinda finish?
Keep the pics coming....would love to see it in place!

Thanks Don. The shelves are poplar. The sides are 2 layers of 3/8" bending plywood (LUAN) with layer of 1/8" poplar veneer that I milled on a planer with a sled. I would not do the outer layer of veneer poplar again, I would just use a filler on the luan ply.

The gunwale is 1/2" maple.

Right now i have 2 coats of Zinnzer stain blocking primer on it. I will probably finish with 2 coats of oil base low gloss or semi gloss. Haven't decided yet.

Ron, I've really had some great results from milk paint. There are a lot of colors available now https://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/store/dept/CMP . And I always put a coat of dewaxed shellac over the last coat....really gives it a great look without too much sheen. And...there are no toxins in the milk paint nor the shellac.
Good luck...keep posting pics!

Don
