Guys please be safe and work safely, today I cut the tip of my finger off. Im not going to post photos unless you want me to.

But after 22 years of woodworking and 10 years working at the shipyards as a marine machinery mechanic, one second of not paying attention cost me the tip of my finger. Dr said it should heal fine no bone damage got to see a neurologist to determine if there was any nerve damage.

But please be safe and work safely my brothers for some of us its a hobby some of us its a job but for all of us we are human and accidents happen, please be careful

Hey Ron,

Sorry to hear that. Here's hoping that the damage is minimal and that you're a fast healer.

Cheers,
Tom

Hey Ron,

That's good to hear. Just out of curiosity, were you ripping or crosscutting, and what type of push stick/block do you use?

Cheers,
Tom

Sorry to hear about your accident but, I can identify.
I worked in a sheet metal shop for over 12 years without any major cuts or injuries. After 2 years of a being a mobile tool sales man, I pinched the end off of my pinky finger off in the "tommy-lift"!
I was a hobbyist wood worker for at least 6 years before I managed to get a serious kick-back to the stomach and stick my thumb into the saw blade at the same time. I too was fortunate enough not to get into the bone but, did hit a small nerve.
It seems that no matter how long you've been doing something or how careful your day to day habits are, poo-poo does occur from time to time. :)

Always good to remind people about safety. Sorry it has to be accompanied by your accident, though. These occasional reminders help me stay focused - all too often I find my mind wondering and have to step back and take stock of what I'm doing.

I'm in the same boat Dennis.
Everything becomes routine and complacent.
That's when something can happen.

Thanks Ron for the reminder.
I have been very lucky.

Ouch! Heal quickly.

Any tool can be dangerous, my most serious woodworking injury was with a belt sander, I did see some one run a screwdriver through there hand doing tenon damage.

Sorry for your pain but grateful that you shared it....definitely impacts my behavior to hear that experienced people injure themselves...so... the loss of your fingertip might have saved my hand!
I hope you heal quickly.
Thanks for the experience!

Don

I just thought of this, I never had to use my hand when I used a shop made push stick. Im going to make a couple of them to use from now on.

Hey, Ron! Sorry to hear that, Buddy. As you remember, I cut my thumb twice exactly one month apart. Hope you're not in much pain. I am back woodworking again with a vengeance, loving every minute of it. Take care, Buddy.
