Trees are an interesting thing in a down town setting and even can be a problem in an urban neighborhood.
When we bought our house (in 1970) the first thing we did was get rid of 13 bushes and trees. We still had 10 or 11 trees on a 9600 sq. ft.
lot. Some of the larger (older) elm trees started being a problem because of limbs breaking and roots getting into the sewer line and cracking concrete on the driveway. The pines shed needles and killed the grass in large areas.
Long story short, just a few years ago (10) we had the whole lot cleared off, leveled, replanted grass, added a sprinkling system AND 3 young maple trees! IMHO the whole place looks a lot nicer and neater now.
It just takes time.
