Gonna be moving back to the USA in a few months. It will be nice to be home and finally retiring. In order to ship my tools home they have to go through an agriculture inspection. So i cleaned every thing up blew off the dust and wiped the tools down. Got them all stacked in their systainers, tables folded up CMS modules disassembled and cleaned.
Im almost done . So I wont be doing any projects for a while. But when I start up again, ill be busy, as I have a laundry list of projects to do. Ill be posting them here. Their fun projects main outdoor things. Small things like AC compressor covers Some plant stands ( I want to start raising some veggies) just a variety of things.

anyway just letting everyone know whats going on.

Where are you right now??

Im in the UK. Been here going on 4 years. Havent been back since I got here.

It will be nice to get back. Have a normal size garage shop. It will be fun setting it up all up again. I got lots of ideas for it. Ill be able to get everything prepped before my tools arrive. You know change the lighting around, I might even get the shop drywalled and insulated :>D

Hope you covered everything with a lot of rust preventative.

Ya know Jeff surprising enough I didnt have and problems with rust and I kept the tools in a unheated garage shop for almost 4 years.

RON TETI: You may not have had a problem with rust in your residential setting however if your tools will be shipped via sea cargo that atmosphere is totally different. Also make sure you have a COMPLETE and accurate inventory including pictures and that your tools are in bonded sealed containers with your shipping agent. I might even consider having the shipping agent sign off on the inventory if you can wangle that. I have a friend who had a tour in England with IBM a few years ago and "lost" almost an entire garage worth of hand and power tools as they were shipped back to CONUS. The hassle he went through to get the tools replaced was enough to change hair color. The old PPPPPP cliche' really can solve problems before they happen. Thanks for the help. I have a inventory and photos of my tools. The military is shipping them home, they do a inventory as well. I didnt have any problems shipping the stuff over here. Going home Should be ok to. Either way I get a inventory sheet from the packers and I hve photos and my own inventory to.

We'll see, It didnt affect them on the way over. Maybe cause they are crated with the rest of my house hold goods before they are placed in the container.

Think Im gonna hit the antique stores and pick up some more old tools (40s,50s) wood hand planes etc. I set them on display in my shop.

Just got a old folding rule thats in imperial measurements. Most of the stuff I get has the carpenters name stamped on it.

Plus a couple more old clocks (wall and mantle), I got 9 of them right now.

Get what you can while you can.

Another cheep trick when shipping over seas is to put some open bags of charcoal in the container. It will act like descant and absorb moisture. I had a piece of equipment shipped to San Juan and that's what they did to keep the rust down. You should also seal any electronics in a bag.

Thanks I didnt think of that. Well Im almost a 2 didget midget be home in 3 mos and then retiring and spending a lot of time setting up and spending time in my shop...

Update, the movers came and packed up the shop and most of our HHG. They will return tomorrow and finish the pack out. Estimated time of arrival to Calif is Aug. (along with my German beer) heheheheh

I'm in San Diego. The Del Mar Fair will be in full swing 'til July 4th when you get to California. That would make it a really great trip for you to see the Design In Wood exhibit ( http://www.sdfwa.org/exhibit-catalogs/ ). Plus, I'd be happy to show you around San Diego....really beautiful place to visit...lotsa sites.
