I think most people would just throw this piece out... But imo, this piece is way too valuable to throw out. The grain is too perfect.

It's redwood that used to be part of a wall. I save shorts like this for making plugs and such.. or for spacers, or whatever... I could even make a 2" long dowel out of this, in about two minutes with a utility knife.

When the grain is that perfect, I just can't throw it away.. Maybe I should seek help 8)

That's not so bad. I have jars full of sawdust from at least 1/2 dozen species that I save for fixing minor surface flaws. :D

Thank you! Now I can tell the bride I'm not the only one. She has been giving me grief about my sawdust stash for years.

One whole corner of the shop is dedicated to storing stuff like this. I pity whoever inherits my 'estate'.

Hey Guys,

I just looked at this thread for the first time and the only thing I can say is that this is the reason that I installed a wood stove.

Cheers,
Tom

Looks like life... in wood..... some fat years some lean years. There will always be a use for shorts and offcuts, even if they get used like TMS does.

heheheh, yeah, but the grain on that one was to perfect to burn... and it would only be kindling anyway.

Cheers Tom  but I have no use for a wood burning stove out here 8)

And it breaks my heart when I have to choose pieces to throw away. Each piece is good for something... sometimes, just because it's the right size already.. even if it's just a shim
