If the idea of making one isn' t your cup of tea, check out a big box flush hollow core door.

A flush solid core makes a better work surface. But the down side is it's considerably heavier plus is quite a bit more expensive.

DENNIS S: I couldn't agree more! When I did some repairs to my house a number of years ago. I used the old solid core front door to make an extension to and an outfeed table for my antique Craftsman saw and an extension table between the rails of my aftermarket rip fence. After all that I still had enough to make a really tall auxiliary fence for the saw. HEAVY! Yes, dead flat yes, with the laminate I added to the door, smooth as glass and SOLID against abuse. I looked at the cost of the door I used to replace it and just couldn't justify throwing the old door in the skip box.
