Please confirm the formula for the R&C finish
1/3 tung oil
1/3 poly
1/3 mineral spirits.

Lost my reference and my memory is playing tricks.

Thanks
Duan

That's the basic formula for "danish" oil. Ratio's can be changed as you desire. You can also use BLO instead of tung. R&C included a first coat of dewaxed shellac (1lb cut) to seal the wood, and light sanding when dry, then the above finish.

The shellac coat isn't absolutely necessary but it does speed things up considerably. Otherwise the first 2 or 3 coats of danish will just soak in.

My notes for Knipfer's "official" formula call for a wash coat of 1# dewaxed shellac, followed by as many coats as you can stand of 1/3 tung oil, 1/3 BLO, 1/3 poly. 24 hrs between coats. Steel wool before each additional coat.
