Hi, everybody! I have some of the furniture that I built that I'm donating to our church for an auction. Some of the tops have tape residue on them from sitting on the racks in the trailer. They have been stained and water based polyed.. Is there anything that will remove the residue?

Thanks very much for your help.

Years ago a friend that worked in the medical supply business gave me some stuff used in hospitals to remove tape residue from skin, etc. Unfortunately I don't remember what it was called but perhaps your local pharmacist might know. In fact as I remember the wife actually found something similar at the drug store. Not sure what it would do to the finish on furniture but might be worth trying.

BTW - good to see your smiling ascii here again!

LARY NORTON: Uncle Fester, good to see you post again! I know you check in but please post occasionally, your wit wisdom and knowledge are missed by many here.
With the usual disclaimer about tryin this in an inconspicuous spot, I have found a product called "GOOF-OFF" to be very effective on adhesive residue. I usually dampen a paper towel with it and wrap or lay the towel on the glue goo. I wait for about a half cup of coffee and then wipe off. I follow the treatment with a rinse of water and /or soapy water and a dry with a soft rag. I get the product in either a big box or my grocery store in about an 8-16 oz plastic squeeze bottle. It does have a smell but I don't think it's offensive but if you have a lot of stuff to do, you might want to do it in a garage or a bigger open space.

Oh to answer your question, krud cutter works good. I'd try denatured alcohol or methylated spirits will work toW try it in a unseen spot first but it might work as well

Mineral Spirits may do the trick.

Hey Larry, good to see your post, and congrats on the new job. Stop by your local pharmacy, they'll have a product used to remove surgical tape residue which works great on finished furniture as it's a little more gentle than googone and the likes. Take care and sell lots of cars.
