I can't handle the cost of Brusso hinges although I love them.

I need some small hinges for jewelry boxes I'm making. Woodcraft is out of the ones I want and didn't see anything at Rockler or Woodworker.

Google didn't give me any decent alternatives either.

Anyone got a secret source for small box hinges? the carcase is 3/8" stock. I'm open to alternatives. I'd normally look at a 1"x3/4 or there abouts.

Horton Brasses might be able to fix you up. A little less than Brusso, but good hinges: http://www.horton-brasses.com/PB-405.asp

Horton looks nice but their smallest if a bit large for 3/8" sides.

Width: 1-1/4" when open
Height: 1"

When ya said Woodcraft is out of them, is that your local store or did ya order on line? I usually order on line from them.

I've used them a few times. A little more work since you have to carve out a pocket for it, and proper positioning is critical, but worth it imho.

Woodcraft also has quadrant hinges ... they are not as solid or nice as the Brusso ... they are stamped and coated to look like brass :

http://www.woodcraft.com/product/126965 ... hinge.aspx

I've used them many times with good success.
And at $9 I can make several more boxes than with Brusso hinges.

You do have to make two pockets ... but you can get away with just a shallow indention on the lid (or top) just enough to bury the hook ... this allows you to get away with a smaller lid.

I found some 1"x3/4" butt hinges by being creative in my search terms. I also got some quadrant hinges just to try them out.

thanks everyone!
