Hey Folks,

I was able to finish the display window today and put a Roorkhee chair in it.  The curtains went up yesterday, and the packing wrinkles are still shaking out.  They looked better today.

Outside, there is unfortunately a lot of reflection from ambient daylight.  I don't really want to spend the money (or permit fees) for an awning right now, so maybe in the future.

At night however, it really shines.

I'm sure a few more props would make it look more inviting, but I'm not really sure what to do there.  Any suggestions are welcome.

For those of you not familiar with the Roorkhee chair, it's a campaign style piece that was designed by some unknown person for the British Royal Engineers stationed at Roorkhee, India.  It's been described as the best camp chair you never heard of.

In addition to being extremely comfortable for extended periods, it also has the ability to self-adjust to uneven ground.  The round mortise and tenon joints all rotate to accommodate any surface.  I typically demonstrate this by having a guest sit in the chair with a book under one chair leg.  Of course, as you would expect of a camp chair, it knocks down and fits in a bag.  With practice, it can be assembled in about eight minutes.

So think about your next outdoor concert, or anywhere else you could use a good outdoor chair, it's what it was made for.

Cheers,
Tom

Lookin' good, Tom. Really like that chair! As for other things to fill up some space, how about a small campaign chest, portable desk/table or similar items that would have been in common use at the time?

I personally wouldn't want to see too much added at the risk of it looking cluttered. Actually, I like just the single piece with the black drape in the background.

Stunning work on the chair, Tom!

In Amsterdam; you only see, a single item on display in the windows.

In other words, I concur with Dennis :D

Hey Mango,

Actually, in Amsterdam the windows usually do have a chair, ...and something else. I think that I'll take Dennis' suggestion for now,

Thanks,
Tom

"Actually, in Amsterdam the windows usually do have a chair, ...and something else. I think that I'll take Dennis' suggestion for now" ,I understand...

last night I was thinking, Having two chairs {might} strike a longer look from a couple envisioning using them at a campsite, outdoor jazz concert or waiting in line at the Caribbean restaurant down the block.

Very nice neighborhood

It does need something to spruce up the display a bit.\\Maybe design another unique product to accent the chair, maybe a matching foot rest, folding table, Put a couple of rocks (fake or real) some small plants to show it being used in a outdoor setting.

The card should give a description explaining a little about the chair . Use the same verbiage that you used in this thread explaining what the chair is and where it came from.

Its a beautiful chair, but I wouldn't have a clue about it until I read what you wrote about it.
