Hey Ralph,

Last house I roofed was my Pop's place. I was fourteen and too terrified to do the first course of shakes. After that, I was good to go, and enjoyed working in the sun with Pop. Since then, I've done a couple of sheds, one with composition shingles and the other with cedar shakes.

I hadn't planned on doing another until I decided to build this pole pavilion for the shop. So now, I'm going to try my hand at steel roofing sheets. It's the only part of the building (that and getting the trusses up) that I expect to need help with; young, hardy, eager and strong help.

Cheers,
Tom

I've done some roofing in my life but, I learned years ago that there are people who do that for a living!
It may cost me more money for the job but, it is made up for by having the job done right, quicker, with less pain and stress and the possibility of need of medical attention on my body. 8)
Plumbing is another thing that I leave up to the "leak proof" guys with the butt crack showing.
Electrical and a few minor home repairs are about the only things I will even consider anymore. :D
It is kind of like auto repair. Years ago, I thought nothing of changing the oil, filters, spark plugs and points in an afternoon. Today, not only do spark plugs last for 100,000 miles, I can't even find them on most cars. And as far as oil filters go, finding them on the motor is hard enough but, finding the "RIGHT" filter for your particular motor and year is an exercise in research and asking questions that takes most of the afternoon anyway? Leave it to someone who knows how, with the correct wrench, and has one in stock! :-D

The last rood I did was my barn about 30+ years ago. It needs to be done again, I ain't doin it. It was bad a painful job then when I was young and stupid, I can't imagine what I would feel like now. Besides Debbie won't let me get up there. :)

Wow! You might not do it again, but you'll never forget doing it either! Good for you!
