A while back I posted pictures of a copy of the Come And Take It cannon that I made. My copy was made out of wood and replicated all the measurements of the original piece in the Gonzales, Texas museum.

A few months back, I had the chance to photograph my replica next to the original gun. All with the museum's permission of coarse.

Here are some pictures.

Shortly after visiting the museum I sold that copy. It was the second one I have sold.

I just finished another one. These things are pretty cool, especially to a Texas history buff.
This new one will be on my website shortly for $600.

WOW! That is sooo cheap for that degree of craftsmanship. Very Impressive. I really appreciate the fact that you market your passion and keep it thriving. So happy you joined our little community....I look forward to your posts.

Thanks Don,
It seems like there is not the traffic on this site that there used to be.
I enjoy posting here.
Maybe it will pick up.

Awesome piece of work. I'm curious how you textured the cannon from the wood to the rusty metal look?

Floyd,
My lovely assistant does all my paint work.
After a base coat of oil base paint, and while it is still wet, she lightly sprinkles fine sand strategically over the barrel.
Then the rest is faux painting with a rag and various colors.
The metal was heated red hot and beat with a ballpein hammer. Then it was cleaned with a wire brush.
A light coat of yellow mustard mixed with a little vinegar and salt is rubbed on by hand.
Then I just left it outside where the dew would keep it damp all night. Next I just washed off the mustard residue and it was finished. I did add a couple of coats of Formby's oil.

Pretty sure you have this covered, but I'm curious how you prevent the wood barrels you make from checking/splitting.

Gene,
I have never had a problem. I do try to keep it out of the sun.
