WWA Info Exchange

Been a while since I posted anything about antique auctions. As before I have no connection with the auction house, but only post this for your viewing enjoyment. This one is a rare collection of art work, furniture, silver, etc. from an 1847 Antebellum home a few miles from me. The house and land are also for sale. Enjoy. I'm planning on going to this one, and will post pics of the interior if I can. I'm sure the architecture will be of interest.

That is kind of interesting to look at but, I don't see me wanting to own any of it.
I know that there are collectors and people that really love it. But really, what would you do with any of it other than look at it and dust it off every week or so?
Some of it will probably go for really big money but, I wouldn't give you $50.00 for all of it even if that included shipping.
I'm just an old cheap miser who just looks at the practical side of everything.

Not all of it get's scattered to the winds. This auction, like other important ones, will draw a lot of professional dealers, big dollar collectors, and museum buyers who will dominate the big ticket items, and who have very deep pockets. There will be more than one multi-millionaire or their reps at this who will buy multiple lots. Here's a story about a similar auction here in 2010. Some of the furniture in this upcoming auction was also made by P. Mallard and will bring in some major money.

Auction isn't till next weekend (8th Aug), but I doubt I could afford it. This one appears to be a VH or VHE, which was one of the less expensive models without the fancy engraving and so on that the high end guns had. It'll probably go for $2k or so, maybe more. Some of the really nice Parkers typically fetch $20-$40 grand.

Back in 1899, a plain jane VHE would have sold for around $100 new. Tells you something about inflation doesn't it.

If I spent that much on an antique shotgun, my wife would likely beat me over the head with it. "Investment purposes" doesn't win any arguments with her.

My VH Grade was made in 1909. I paid $10 for it about 40 years ago.

You got a unbelievable deal. I wonder if the seller knew what he had. The small bore guns are often pricier than the the 12 gages.
