In the interest of generating some envy, we've put up about 3 gallons of them this year. One of our neighbors has several mature bushes that are really producing and are really sweet and plump this year. We trade with her - she gets 'maters, squash, etc. and we get berries. :D

Gail makes all kinds of blueberry goodies - cakes, pies, muffins, jams, and of course just snacking on them. We planted 3 bushes a couple years ago, and they produced some this year, but the birds have been eating them as fast as they get ripe. :x

Reminds me ...

Got about two gallons of raspberries in the freezer store up in prep for making this year's batch of fruit leather. Still getting the recipe dialed in. Last year's batch was a bit more tart than I would have liked it to be.

Sounds great! We go to the mountains in PA in August and like to pick some wild blueberries. Make great pies and pancakes!

Gene,
I picked up some cheap net at Lowes. Made a temporary frame with narrow strips of plywood stapled together to hold the net to keep out the birds. Worked great. Our blue berries were protected from the birds. I used plastic ties to attach the net. I took it down last week end and saved the net. Disposed of the strips. Cheap, easy and fast to build, and disposable when finished.

I just had a nice bowl of home made blue berry ice. Delicious.

George

I might do that next year. Thanks.
