Has anyone here made a traveling woodworking shop in a closed trailer? I need ideas of how to pack my tools into a small trailer and be able to use them without moving everything around.

I'd suggest you start by using the shop planner on Grizzly.com http://www.grizzly.com/workshopplanner . That and pare your tool collection down to the bare minimum - substitute hand tools for power tools where possible, etc. You will need a bench with a good vice and dog holes no matter what, so you might consider that as the center piece and go from there.

Maybe a "Student" bench similar to mine with under bench storage. (this one is an antique, except for the underbench removable storage which I made for it).

Thank you that website is very helpful. Now I realize I need to condense the tools I have, perhaps a table that flips with tools on different sides.

I have always liked this concept

multi-use, tool, surface, job
fixed in place or on casters

how are you planning to use this shop? Is it for fine woodworking while on the road, or as a job-site shop for construction carpentry? I suspect these choices would lead to very different designs.

When we retire in January, I want to be able to take my shop on the road visiting relatives and friends, building cabinets and furniture (no big house construction projects). I don't want a walk in trailer because that would be too big for me to haul. The links suggested above have given me great ideas on how to proceed. Thank you to all.

I like your idea about taking tools with you on your retirement tour! The most important tool for most of us is the workbench and this: http://www.popularwoodworking.com/workb ... -workbench is the one I'd take if I was cramped for space. Coupled with the tool chest Swarze recommends one could stay productively busy with mostly hand tools.
I see you're from central Texas....I'm originally from Brownwood and we have another member from Brady......doubt you can get more 'central' than that in Texas.
Let us know what you decide to do.
