I have a kitchen drawer that is on it's last legs, it has come apart in the past and I put it back together with small angle iron in the corners. So I decide to build a new drawer and use some new slides from Blum of the undermount variety that open all the way, .......there is a term for that but right now it is gone,...... and close softly, how hard can it be right????..............ya right. The overall hieght of the drawer is less than 4 inches. In messing arond today I discovered that the slides need 1-1/8th of clearance on the bottom hence I lose that amount of space in the drawer. SOOOOooooooo I am going to look at side mounting slides that will also open completely and close softly. The sidemounts might allow me to use more space as the depth of the drawer could be 20 inches but with the bottom mounts I can only get 18 inches as the next lenght they go to is 21 inches and I can't get that in there. I can probably use the undermounts on another drawer.

Full extension, Paul. That's what they're called.

A friend gave me a pair of those Blum undermounts that I though I'd try using. They seem a lot more complicated to install than the side mounts. But maybe that's just me.

Yeah side slides will work, but you will have to make the drawer 1" smaller then it already is?? You need 1/2 space on each side of the drawer for the slides. Maybe I am wrong :-D Good luck

Or make the drawer opening 1" wider for the slides? OH heck just tear the whole deal out and build some new ones??
Besides this place is like death warmed over. Nothing going on. I sure would like to see someone building new kitchen Cabs??
GOOD LUCK

Yes side mounts need 1/2" clearance. I discovered what I was doing wrong with the bottom mounts. Thanks to 10 fingers I went back and watched some videos and saw that I was forgetting to cut the slot out at the back of the drawer. Still they will take up too much room from the drawer, so I will be going to the side mounts. The drawer components are made but not final yet still have room for change.

you mention full extension slides. Did you know there are "over-extension" slides?
Full extension still leave the back of the drawer obstructed by the overhang of the countertop. Over-extension gives you another inch or two. Just a thought.
