Or perhaps more accurately - 'non flammable'.

Had a massive failure this afternoon with the stuff. I've used it in the past with acceptable results but I guess I didn't allow enough drying time. Literally pulled the laminate off the substrate when I noticed the edges weren't bonded. Plus it appears that the moisture seemed to cause the laminate to expand (???) Where the edges failed to bond the material looked like it had swelled up or something leaving blisters along the edges. I've NEVER had this problem with the old high VOC stuff.

The plan is to go back over both the substrate (MDF) and the laminate with good old smelly stuff in hopes that it's able to reactivate the residue from the other stuff.

This is a long (8') shelf for the laundry room that I'd hate to have to remake from scratch. Any suggestions with regard to my planned approach to saving it?

TIA ....

Hey Dennis,

I would be reluctant to mix the organic solvent glue with the water soluble stuff. I too have had problems with under cured WS contact cement. You just have to be patient, and give it the full dry time. I would go over it again with the WS and have a beer, or two before contact.

Cheers,
Tom

Yup. I've had the same issues before. The water takes much longer to "flash off" than the VOC component in other cements.

When I did my outfeed table 10 years ago it took at least 45 minutes for the Water-based rubber cement to dry on the 40" x 45" top.
