Started with the center post salvaged from an old piano. It is oak. Cut the legs on the band saw. They are white oak with a piece of walnut in the center. The skirt I bent from 3/8 inch oak using steam for bending. Used a thin piece and some sanding to cover the joint. You have to look very close to see the seam. I wanted to get a Corian counter top piece for the top but I couldn't see $100.00 for a piece 19 inches in diameter. So I made the top also oak and cut the circle with a router jig I bought as the local Sears years ago when they shut down. There might be a better way, but this jig works great and is easy to assemble and use. Used some very thinned out ebony stain and then poly for the finish.

Truly well done project! I really appreciate how you developed the idea and executed the plan to create it. That's craftsmanship at it's finest. Inspirational!
How did you attach the top? Any pics?

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Probably at the glass store. That is where I got the glass for mine. It isn't cheap but, it was worth it in my case because my table doesn't have a wooden top!

Just take the table down to the shop (or some very accurate dimensions) and ask about various glass (like non glare or tinted) and inquire about prices as far as thickness and cutting and "Bob's your uncle".
Oh yea take your check book or credit card with you.

The cross part of the top frame is screwed down into the center post. The round part of the frame is attached to the cross piece with screws. Both counter sunk. The skirt is attached with glue and small nails using air nail gun. The top is screwed up thru the round frame piece.

The glass came from American Glass in Columbus, MS. Cost $19.84. I thought that was not a bad price.

If I remember right, and it has been a few years ago, my glass was around $35.00. However, I used 1/4" thick, non glare glass and then there was the fact that the octagon shape was a bit harder to cut than a regular rectangle or circle.
The labor to cut an odd shape and grind the edges smooth probably added to the total cost.
I got it at local glass shop (Sunflower Glass) that deals mostly in windows and mirrors so, a special order/shape caused a bit of excitement over a one off table that was destined as a State Fair entry.

PS. Second place. :)

Nice job. My only critique would be that the top has a much more modern, streamlined appearance than the base. You could make the top more stylistically linked to the base by inlaying a circular band or two with a color like the center band in the feet. Also, attaching a bead or two to the skirt would "age" it as well. Or you could just leave it as it is, highlighting it's mixed origins
