I recently toured the National Museum of the Marine Corps, near Quantico, VA. Here are pictures of some of the canons that were on display:

(The pictures might be in reverse order.) I'll post more of the pictures tomorrow. Hope you like it.

Verna,
I am very interested in seeing more pictures. I appreciate you thinking about me.
A Dahlgren boat howitzer is a rare and very expensive gun.
Thanks!

Gene, the food was outstanding!! Wonderful side salad that was an entire plate, grilled chicken breast grilled to perfection!! One of the best meals I had while I was around Washington, D.C.

I was wondering if you had been there. I'm working on putting all of the photos I took in an accessible location.

I can tell you the Korean War Memorial was very touching. To think that Daddy went through the same conditions depicted in the images--WOW. I spent a lot of time there.

Zulu, this is the closest I have been to a canon. I was hoping the pictures were good enough for you to look at.

If you are ever near Quantico, VA, I highly recommend this museum. Be sure to set aside one full day. It is very informative, has a lot of real items from the wars, and is just downright interesting.

As I understand it, my brother took Daddy through the museum about 9 months before Daddy passed away. Daddy was still talking about how real everything was in the museum as long as his mind was still working correctly. He was very impressed.

I visited once many years ago, right after it opened. :)

Verna,
Sounds like a great experience for you.
I'll look it up if I'm ever in the area.
