Sweet!

I keep meaning to take and post a photo of my most recent acquisition: Winchester 94 circa 1973. Not the most collectible but came in the original box and doesn't look like it's had more than a few rounds through it.

Gotta feed the dog a handful of Benidryl first, though.

What caliber? I almost bought one a few weeks ago. 30-30, same year. But I waited too long and somebody else got it.

Love to see a couple pics of it. :-D

Hey Gene,

Isn't a .41 magnum "cowboy" load a bit of an oxymoron, given that Remington introduced the cartridge in 1967? I should think that in the interest of authenticity you would be shooting a .45 long colt. :D

Also, If I remember correctly, the modern Win 94 was only ever offered in the 30-30 cal. The Win 92 however was recently offered in .357 mag. and .44 mag. I never much cared for the 94, the action always seemed a bit loose and the 30-30 cartridge was prone to extrusion and head ejection. The Win 92 has a very short, solid, and crisp action much more to my liking.

BTW- Both rifles were designed by Browning, for Winchester.

Cheers,
Tom

Not looking for authenticity, Tom. Just a lighter recoil and less cost for practice. My usual load is a 210grn Hornady XTP HP loaded hot - 1560fps, that kicks like a mule and costs a $1.10 per shot. The Georgia Arms swc is 800fps and 50cents a shot.

The Win '94 is and was available in several different center fire calibers. .25-35, .32 W.S. 30WCF (.30-30), .38-55, .375, .44mag, .450Marlin, etc. And then there's the 9422 and 9422M rimfires. I have a 9422M that I bought new in '74; one of my favorites that I shoot a lot.

Well that was fun. Killed a bunch of ballons. :D

Really like these Georgia Arms rounds. Makes the .41 mag recoil feel like a .38 special. Tried out a grip & technique that Jim Finch demonstrates in the below video, including the thumb fanning, which went really well. Sure does empty a cylinder fast  . Easy to get back on target compared to my normal hot loads (210gr, 1560mv). I'll be ordering these from GA again.

I didn't do any penetration testing this time with them, so don't know if they'd be suitable for HD. Given the low mv I'm not expecting much. Might set up some boards tomorrow and see how they do on pine.

Pretty clean rounds. Hardly any powder residue, etc. after 50 rds. No leading I could see.
