WWA Info Exchange

I have an opportunity to get some mulberry wood for free. Is it good for woodworking/turning? Never used it or seen it advertised.

IMHO any wood that is free is perfect for turning!



I have a couple smallish branch pieces of "Mulberry" that I have turned.
It has sort of spalted by the time I got to it, but it turns nicely enough. Certainly is good practice.

I suspect good stock will age to a nice deep yellow-brown.

As for other projects I find the grain and figure to be rather bland. Unless a crotch piece or other malformed area where grain tends to be more interesting.

It is actually pretty nice turning wood, but when first cut or turned, it is an interesting yellow color that slowly darkens over a period of months.

Won't be any pics...another wonderful CL experience...NOT!!

Spent over $20 in gas going to get the wood. When I got there, the guy was pulling out of the driveway and had put all of the wood in the dumpster. A phone call would have been nice to tell me he changed his mind on saving the wood out for me
