Probably to low, but heres another hint Lumberjacks used them (monty python sang the song about lumberjacks..) So did most people who had a bit of property and needed lumber.

Maybe this will jog someones memory, or maybe tomorrow needs a better type of question!

Sorry about the python clue it was the best I could think of.

I was reading about axes and their handles in Eric Sloane's "Museum of Early American Tools" Fantastic book!
