Hey all,
Have had the week off so I got some turning time in.

Here is a 12-1/2" deep platter I have made from a piece of leftover Maple.

It really has a lot of striking grain features.

I had to use many turning tricks on this one.
It had some cracks...CA filled.
It had some bark inclusions...Mixture of coffee grounds (Kona dark roast) and CA.. This helped clean it up. It still took way more sanding than I liked.

I didn't like how the curly grain was tearing out so I used Sanding sealer before sanding
Here it is for depth

And a good shot from above.

Finish is my mixture of 60% mineral Spirits and 40% Pettit Captains Varnish #1015.

Sanded to 400# then Scotchbrite pads. Then 2 coats of finish scotchbrite between coats.

Thanks for looking,
---Nailer---

Looks great Mike, glad to see someone is still turning things. I can't remember the last time I turned anything :( .
