Hey Ralph,

I suppose that it could be used as a marking gauge.

Mine sees its most use ensuring hinge mortises are flat and consistent in depth.

Clean up tenons, level the bottoms of dados and rebates, and in the smaller 271 version, cut grooves for stringing and banding.

It does have many uses but cleaning the field in carving is as close to what I had in mind which was levelling a wide ground for an inlay.

So Newtooth gets the soggy point and all those that came up with other suggestions will receive a free ticket to the 2094 Olympics (standing only)...

Ralph
