...the whole of the edge of a piece of wood at less than 90ยบ is is refereed to as having a bevelled edge. If the angle is shallow, for example; the edge of a 'T' square or rule, the edge would be referred to as having what kind of edge?

Hmmm... I suppose tapered could describe it but I think that would be more appropriate to running with the grain and along its whole length, like a door wedge. I am looking for another word this time...

How 'bout, "eased"?

Tom

Tom -

'Eased' has always implied, to me, just lightly knocking off the sharp edge along the length of the board. What Ralph's describing sounds more like a chamfer to me. Although a chamfer can be up to and beyond 45 degrees.

Clue time...

S _ _ _ _ y _ d

If it is any help, I had not heard of this before. Found in an old dusty woodworking book first published 63 years ago, 9,499 miles from here...

OK, are fractional points awarded? (grin)

Have a heart, Ralph - my blood pressure meds can't cope with the suspense.

'Splayed' edge is what I wanted someone to come up with. As I said above I had not heard of this term before...
