Here's a picture of a whale's tail bench I just completed. It's made from walnut with maple wedges used on all of the through tenons.
There are twin tenons on the top of each upright and twin tenons on each end of the stretcher. Finish is 3 coats of deftoil over a sealcoat of
clear shellac. You have to use your imagination on the whale's tail
shape for the cut out on the bottom of the uprights. Thanks for looking

Tom -

That is gorgeous. The twin through tenons make it. Very tight design, well balanced...

Outstanding!

That is a nice looking bench!!
Not only do I LOVE walnut, you did a fantastic job on the construction! I'm just trying M&T joints now. I'm not sure that I'm ready for TWIN tenons yet. :-D
I would like a closer look at the maple wedges if you get time to get a shot.
I just tried M&T joints for the second time on my last project. The tenons are not a problem for me (on the table saw) but drilling a square hole with a drill press and chisels is a real challange!

Hey Tom,

Very nice!
I like the details, the chamfer on the underside of the top, the wedged through tenons, and of course the whale tail.

Tom,

You're misssing an opening bracket on your first photo "[".
Sometimes it pays to use the provided buttons. ;)

That would otherwise show this stunning view of the Walnut:

A beautiful piece of work for sure.
