Hey Ralph,
I think that Bob was close, because the blue stain is typical of a fungal infection of pines. I'll guess Ponderosa pine, because they're a big yellow pine.

I was going to say aracantha(sp) or monkey puzzle but the branches are usually spaced more regularly around the trunk. Oh-what the hey ... I'll guess monkey puzzle anyway. _________________ Nullum Gratuitum Prandium

Thanks for the correction on the botanical name, Ralph. I fell heir to a short log of the stuff some time back and got interested in it's family, ermmm tree. From what I read it's one of if not the most prehistoric tree species growing today.
