This is a woodworking question and Tom (tms) you are banned from answering this one - I will tell the rest of you why tomorrow!

I'm assuming it has something to do with the double wedge that shows on the side??

Or is that a bow tie??

Sorry Guys,

I'll have to recuse myself on this one. Ralph doles out the clues here.

Tom

It looks like a coil spring inside a plastic case or sleeve.

Doing a google search for woodworking and coil spring shows a picture of a bandsaw tensioning spring that looks similar, but I'm gonna guess tensioning spring anyhow.....Jim

Ho Ho! So nobody gets the points tonight

Sue is holding a blank for a hand forged carving gouge made By Ashley Iles. Here is the rest of the picture:

And here are the stages of making the tool:

Image

The reason Tom was excluded from the Puzzler today was that he, and his wife Kris, were standing next to me when the picture was taken. This was a couple of summers ago when we were lucky enough to get a guided tour of the workshops by two of the Iles brothers.

MORE ON ASHLEY ILES HERE

NOT FAIR!!!!
In other words it is nothing more than a piece of steel that could have been machined into almost anything!!!
I have seen simiular pieces turned into sockets for ratchets that mechanics use or streched into screwdriver shanks. 8)
Why don't you show us a tree and ask what was built from it after it was cut down?

Don't take that rant too seriously. I'm not really that upset. :-D Just got a chance to blow off some steam and......IT WAS FUN!!!!

Hey Rog,

Cool down, it's only a bit of fun :D

Anyway I did say it was woodworking so that excludes the mechanics tools so that is more than half your bonfire put out  :D :D :D

I'm with RR, there was no reasonable way anyone could have guessed as to the purpose of a hunk of steel. So said points that would have been awarded must be destroyed wholly and completely in accordance with rule B of paragraph 718, sub graph 54, sentence 1002 on page 6 of "The rules of destruction of points when no clue as to the purpose of said hunk of steel" The fact that said reference material has yet to be published is of no consequence. :D :D
