Well I am trying a true frame and panel case piece. It is a real joy so far.

Here is the progress,

Side view, panels to come.

Well I editied this post with more picts of todays work...

With Panels in place.

I am liking this piece. It has a good feel to it. All M&T joints with some over laping within the legs, specifically the center square as it is joined to the side square. (That was fun to lay out  ).

Making the panel grooves line up with the aprins was also a nice experience in good layout.

Now I have to take it all apart and clean it up.

Thanks,

James

Plywood or resaw panels? I was going to use 1/4 oak ply in a recent project until I realized that $1.65 / BF was really $0.83 after the bandsawing. About the same price as the ply. Not to mention I got real grain instead of rotary peel figure for my efforts.

Plywood, my resaw capability is limited by my my band saw. Looming in delivery/order and waiting tax return funds a new Grizzly awaits. But solid panels would be my first choice.

Thanks.

With that new router table you should make raised panels. :D

Looks good so far.

What's it going to be in the end?

Looks like you got some flitch-sawn (though unmatched) veneer rather than rotary peeled. Is it birch backed? Only stuff available around here is rotary peeled with laun underplies. Special order for anything above "B" $urface.

I've got an old Delta with 6" capacity, so I either do glue-ups or more panels.

Looking good James! I love working with cherry. That'll be a real beaut when you get it finished. 8)
