The house gets one step closer to completion - a linen closet tucked into an alcove between the shower and the bedroom closet. The upper doors conceal 4 shelves for towels and sheets, the lower panel has the kitty litter behind it. The porthole is for cat entry/egress. The wood is Port Orford cedar, which I left unfinished so as not to trap the lovely aroma.

The "panels" are stainless steel fabric. This is a very tightly woven fabric 50 threads per inch x 200 threads per inch. (I'd love to see how this is woven!).
I bought it online from Bellville Wire Cloth whose folks were very helpful with info and generous with samples to help pick the right weave. This particular weave has about 5% open space, just enough to let the linens breath, but essentially opaque, even when backlit. The wrinkles in the fabric are exaggerated by the flash photo - they're not nearly so apparent in person.

Nice, very nice. I like the way you inlet the rails into the stiles. That makes a very nice touch.

The cat uses the screen as a scratching post.

Okay, the wire clothe is really cool but I'm fixated on the joinery.

Is that a "reverse M&T? And if so, how did you make the chamfered cut on the style? Looks clean enough to be a machine cut but I can't figure out how you would do it w/ a machine. Is it hand work?

The doors are a modified half-lap joint that I've been using throughout the house. I posted a short piece on how to build them here (unfortunately two of the images come up missing, but hopefully you'll get the idea.)

And yes, the cat walks through the porthole to get to the litter. And no, so far I haven't caught her using the screen as a scratching post. The weave is probably too dense to be interesting to the cat - she can't her claws into it.

dr - love the design and beautifully done! Only thing that I am curious about is your decision to leave them unfinished. I've used cedar alot and its fairly soft - wondering if it will pick up stains, dents, etc. w/o any finish? Even as your cat rubs against it, it'll pick up oils.

I left the doors unfinished because I didn't want to trap the lovely aroma of the Port Orford cedar. I may regret this, but for now we're going to see how it works out.
