Well I'm building a jewelry cabinet, first project in a long time. I'm not sure what to use to get that felt look in the bottom of the drawers? Is it glued on felt? some kind of flocking? I'm just not sure.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks! Len

Len,
I havent used the flocking, I've been told it can have some problems but, I've seen it done and it looks fine to me if you get enough coverage.
I have used the stick-on felt that you can buy at "Hobby Lobby" and had fairly good luck on the SECOND try. You should practice with it first because when you peel off the backing and stick it on....IT IS THERE!!! It comes in several colors and in 8"x 12" sheets (I think)
It is just a matter of cutting the felt into the proper shape and size before removng the backing. I started it in the hardest edge to get to and peeled the backing as I went up the side or across the bottom.

I've used flocking and really like it-- easy, cheap, and it has held up to normal-use well

Make a pattern out of paper first so you get the corner cuts right. Haven't used felt, but have used thin leather for this, and the fitting is the same.

I have used self adhesive felt and velvet - both work very well. My process is to use pieces of poster board cut to fit your section size and then apply the material to the poster board with wraping around the edges and then insert. Makes for a nice cushioned look and feel.

Thanks for the tips! I'll be looking for the sticky backed felt, that sounds like the way to go.

I may apply the felt to the drawer bottoms before installing the bottoms in the drawers. I'll post some pics when it gets further along.

So I was first in line at the craft store today. The sticky felt was what I needed. Thanks!!! So the first attempt was a ring drawer.

So I found some high density foam backer rod in the museum, taped it to some old growth mdf, and then wrapped it with that felt. So drawer # 1 will be the ring drawer.

I may still make different elevations in that drawer, a design as you go thing. So this is the idea.Has anybody try the backer rod idea yet???It seems to work great.

So far...

Nice design for the ring drawer. I'd always wondered how they made those. Can't wait to see the whole thing finished. 8)

Good seeing you again!
