In my last post I have a picture of my table light.

Mango mentioned about a pool table.. Well come spring in a few weeks I start my sheet rock job in the next room next to my bar. I dedicated the whole second floor of my shop as my big play room. My Question here today for all of you people is that :) who has built a pool table from scratch?
I am not going to be using "slate" because of its cost and such. I am not a pool shark and need the best table. Its just for fun..Besides I can't even see anymore ,, My eyes suck, back hurts, legs hurt, my stamina sucks, and I can't hear a thing..Lord help me :D

LB, sounds like to me that you need to build a casket instead of a pool table. :-D :-D :-D  :D

Just a joke son.

I'm confused. You have a pool in your 2nd floor play room and you want a table for it? Will the table be in the pool or beside it? :D

little bear,
First, I have not made a pool table but I have played a lot of pool. A 3/4" plywood deck can have a tendency to warp a little and drift the balls. If I was making one, I would use 1 1/8" sub floor plywood. It is heavy but much less subject to warping.

How about making a torsion box out of 1/2" MDF for the table top? It might be a bit heavier than the plywood but, I'll bet it would stay flatter longer.
With 1/2" top and bottom and 1" vertical grid pieces glued up, you would have a 2" thick (almost as strong as slate) stable bed for the pool table.

Rog

PS note that I did not make one of my usual smart-ass comments........yet :D

Maybe I will use MDF. The stuff is stable for the top. Then build rails and stretch blue felt and off we go into pool table land :-D

Hey LB,

I can ship over some free slate over for you but man it will cost an arm and a leg .

Some 3/4 inch corian (might) work on a thick ply torsion box framework.Just think if you had to drop water or beer on MDF :D

Do you think it will be ready by the time I visit you next Summer  :)

Have Fun
