grumble... grumble....
well I'm not real pleased with the way the elephant turned out....
as LOML put it... (she knew I wan't happy).... you can do it again if you like and not make it "rustic"
sure, (says I) but do you understand that I made this out of zebrawood and ebony? (she knows what these woods cost)
"well I like it just fine like it is then!" she says
The elephant was carved out and then I used inlace turquoise and epoxy to fill the carving and then sanded it level. The epoxy had a bubble or two in it which I filled with more epoxy and inlace but you can see where the patches are (they are very very tiny, but I can see them) The ebony edging I roughed up with a block plane and though I like the look, I would do it differently next time....
We also spent almost 6 hours pulling all the sashes off the windows and then cleaning out the casements, dry lubing the sashes and mechanisms, ordering replacement parts for the tilt locks that have broken and cleaning (inside and out) all the windows.... I don't think the windows have been properly cleaned (the casements) since the house was made 13 years ago...we've washed the windows every quarter or so, but not removed the sashes and done them properly up till now.
They ride and look great now... but LOML and I are TIRED!!
I think I'll give the elephant another try tonight/tomorrow...
