Here are a few pics of a couple of mortars I just finished.

1780's Spanish 10" mortar in 1/2 scale. 5" bore. Unpainted so far.
First pic is what it is supposed to look like (an original).

Wow! Lots of detail. The paint job on the last I saw was really good.

Here is the Spanish mortar after I painted it. I tried to match a faux paint patina. it turned out good! 8)

I'm amazed!!!! I love the faux paint patina--just as I would expect it look as an old mortar.

Thanks for the pics

WHOW!!!!
Now that is a paint job and a half!!!! :-D I like that sooooo much better than the gloss black. Very realistic looking!
Not to complain but now the "wooden" parts need more of a weathered look. I have no suggestions how to do it but, if you could pull it off, it sure would be the frosting on the cake!!!
I'm sure that it would make a lot of collectors take a second look. :D
Anyway as always, VERY GOOD WORK!

man, those things need a bright orange thing sticking out of the barrel like the toy guns so folks will know it's not real (just kidding)

The level of detail and realism you portray in your work is amazing and deserves a second and third look.

Well done and thanks for sharing

Beauty work Zulu! The Dictator is my favorite, but the patina on the 10" looks so real I'm hard pressed to tell for sure.

Great work!

BTW: I have a friend who's building a mini mortar and trying to make it look as true as possible, but he's having trouble locating square head nuts and bolts. Do you know where to get these in a 3/8" size, or similar?

Thanks,

Ice Pirate,
You can get square nuts at Ace Hardware and Home Depot. They are in the specialty drawers in the bolt section. They are expensive! 1/2" are $.90 each. I went on line and found them in about one minute for $.23 each if I bought 100. I use them so I did. :-D

Thanks everyone for the comments.

Thanks Zulu, I hadn't thought to look in the speacialty drawers. We're heading to HD anyway to get the stock for the base, I'll check for the squares then.
