I made this one at the same time as the butternut end table.
This is for my ex-neighbor who is retired and about to move down to Florida. He has a floor cabinet/wine refrigerator down there, and he wanted something to hang above it that would hold wine glasses. I did a little google images searching and found something like this. It's basically a small upper kitchen cabinet with a top.
I figured a french cleat is the way to hang this thing.
And due to the dimensions and what it's holding, I want to be extra sure it doesn't come off the wall, so I'm going to have him send some screws through the back once he hangs it on the cleat. In order to do that, I'm leaving the top unattached. So I added a few blocks to the underside to have it set in the box snugly.
And you may notice my signature. This is new. I have a friend who does hand carved rubber stamps. He made one for me in exchange for helping him with some display stands.
Oh yeah, the finish. Yes, it's stained (merlot dye stain) . . . no, I wouldn't have stained it if it was mine. But he wanted it to approximately match the refrigerator. Since that was down if FL, all we could do was go by a picture. He understands that it won't match exactly. I did the wash coat of shellac first, then the stain. Then a BLO/Poly/Mineral Spirits wipe on finish.
Got it done just in time. He leaves tomorrow!
BTW, this is the project that pummeled me with two of my 3 kickbacks. I'm ready for it to go away!
