I am looking at the cabinet style table saws from Grizzly. I thought I had made my choice and then today I recieved the new catalog from them and they have a new G model table saw. Here is the two links for the table saws. The first one is the new table saw model G1023RL and the other is for the G0690 I am leaning towards the G1023RL now I would like to know what you think.

I see one of the new items is a thin riving knife.

ah yes, the new grizzly catalog... they really should send those out December 1st, when the kids receive their big toy book catalog. I think it would make us all more kid-like for the start of the Christmas season!!!

I can see it now... My kid sitting on the floor drooling over her big book, me sitting next to her drooling over my big book... all the rustling of turning pages and the Mrs, thinking how we're going to pay for Christmas this year!!!

I would say the 690 generally reads better except for one major item (at bottom of post). The 690 looks like it's a newer design and there are some differences that stand out if the spec sheets are correct;

1) Amps: 690 requires 12.8 amps, the 1023 requires 18amps.
2) Depth of cut: the 690 has more depth at both 45 and 90 degrees
3) Max rip to right and left of blade is greater on the 690
4) Fence rail on the 690 is steel tubing. This seems to be where the industry is going.
5) Fences are very different between the two. The 1023 comes with a Shop Fox, whereas the 690 looks like a Biessemeyer style.

*** Major item: One thing I didn't see in the spec sheet was the info on 50" rails for the 690. It doesn't look like there is a large rail set available. If you need more than 30" of rip capacity, the 690 isn't for you unless you want to build your own rail set.

If you want the 50 inch rip you have to go with the g0691 model.

OK I am cheap.
On craigs list Philadelphia had several Delta Unisaws.
( http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/sear ... maxAsk=max )
Most of my stationary tools were purchased used, except my ras that was my dad's.
Less money on tools more money for wood.

A 50" fence is really nice when using of ply, but that can also be done with a cutting guide for your hand held circular saw. Dado and rabbit cuts are another issue.

The riving knife are a nice safety feature.

I am planing to stop at Grizzly's show room on my nway home that will be on Monday or Tuesday. I try to take a look for you e-mail me on Sunday to remind me.

Laguna tools has a cabinet saw in the same price range http://www.lagunatools.com/tablesaws/ta ... latinumlt#

In short I'm not much help

No mater what invest in a good glue line rip blade. I like my Forest and Delta (high end) blades. Good reference http://www.woodcraft.com/Articles/Artic ... icleid=691

I have read quite a few horror stories about Laguna Customer service So they are out. I can drive to Grizzly's showroom it is 2 hrs from me. I like the left tilt saws. I do not really care about 50 inch rips I be happy in the 26 to 30 range. I could always add the longer rails later. I am a little afraid on buying expensive equipment that is used. What happens if the motor dies? New equipment you have a warranty for a year or 2.
If you look at the used table saws, some of the tops are completly rusted over. If you can not take the time to keep the top clean, you most likely abused the saw is my motto.

I understand what you are saying. I just do not want to take that chance.

I'm with Adam on all accounts.

Not sure how the get a lower amperage rating with the same HP though.

If someone could explain that, I'd apprciate it.

Old iron is good, but if you can afford new iron that good, then that's better. I for one have gone both ways in the past, I much prefer buying new.

I'm sure you will be happy with either one of these choices, but if it were me I'd go with the 690. In looking at the pictures I like the riving knife on it better than the 023. The 023 looks lik it may be higher than the blade, which would interfere with a cut that doesn't got through the board, however I could be wrong.
