Hey guys as I’m done with woodworking college at the end of the year, I was wondering where the fine woodworking job are? Any job in the states or in New Brunswick Canada? to where I prefer being. Wood web has been great help.

The main key is to get your first job. By that I mean most people that are looking for someone to build something for them, are using someone that someone else has used before. So for you to get work you need work first. I know a catch 22, but I speak the truth.

Where ever you are living. get you business license, start your shop, and let everyone you know that you are in business. Join the local chamber of commerce. They usually have dinners or socials once a month. You will send your card around, network and talk yourself up. And they usually give away prizes and stuff donated by the chamber members. You could donate a small woodworking item to be given. This will go farther than you think.

You will spend more money than you will make those first months, so don't be discouraged, keep at it.

These times are tough, that is the truth, so you will need to be diligent and strike quickly when the time comes. Hard work will most certainly pay off.

Good luck,
Darryl

Well, you could try Stickley. They have a shop here in CO and 2 others elsewhere in the nation.

You might also look at Bassett.

Wood100, just follow your heart. If you want to be an artist, you have to learn to tighten your belt. Wood artists don't make money...........they make fine furniture. Learn to enjoy beans and rice three times a day and make the furniture you want. Lot's of your work in the beginning will end up making fine firewood, and not fine furniture..........but that's okay, it's all part of the process. Don't listen to anyone who tells you it's not possible to make a living with wood...............because many do..........not all, but many. And the term "making a living" is subjective, so decide what is important in your life and go from there with it. Good luck. Nothing sweeter than the smell of wood dust!!!!! :D

Maybe you could morph into Industrial arts/ Tech ed teaching. There are usually jobs for that if you can get certified. :)
