Hello All, sorry I haven't been on the forum much lately. Been swamped w/ work and completing this project.

This is an entertainment center for my brother & his wife. She mentioned something over Thanksgiving and I thought - Sure - I can finish that in a week. Oops! 4 weeks and 40 hand jointed board-feet later, I finished it.

My brother is always fussing about the location of the remotes, so I built a drawer that wouldn't hold much else other than remotes:


Panel Raised drawer bottom w/ screw slot to allow movement.

Good job! I really like it and it looks very sturdy too!

But, how do you get any work done in the shop with all that help around? I simply can not work (think) when anyone is around trying to "help". I must be a "one man show" because other people either ask too meny questions or give too much advice. And I don't get anything done.

- As for the plane, you can order one from Knight Tool Works (http://knight-toolworks.com/). He builds old-style planes with new style methods. He uses a CNC machine. If I had a few extra bucks, I'd get the Clark & Williams plane.

- Hammer / plane comment. Not sure if I followed your comment, however for those who don't know, the wooden planes are adjusted with light taps from a hammer. Light taps on the iron advance the iron. Light taps on the rear of the plane withdraw the iron.

- Helper #2 was a friend visiting from Denmark and he did very well w/ hand tools. He was hand jointing boards and doing well.

- Helper #1 did all of the finish work on the top in particular. She was a huge help in finishing the project and had the additional quality of being very cute.

It was well worth the time it took to build.
Great design, perfect grain match and finish.

As for the finish, I did a basic Rude & Crude.
- 1 coat of shellac buffed out with very fine bronze wool
- several coats of tung oil

EDIT: Correction - Helper #1 did most of the finish work. I just critiqued.

Beautiful work and probably a lot more fun as a family project.
