I'm going to need a stand for my grinder to get it situated for more sophisticated sharpening than lawnmower blades and axes  Considering the wheel height relative to your elbow, say, what height do you find works well.

Thanks, Dennis. I'm converting my grinder to "turning tools only", with the appropriate wheels. Hubby will use another grinder (we only have 4, sheesh) to sharpen the axes and such. :D

FG,

I have mine at about elbow height.

I find it is a good combination for watching the top of gouge flutes as they sharpen and for seeing the bevel angle for a skew or scraper.

I use a Oneway Wolverine sharpening jig. So that raises the grinder an inch or so.

Good Luck,

If the centerline of your lathe is comfortable with the tools you use, seems logical to put the centerline of your grinder the same place. Might have to stoop to set a jig, but freehand would be like turning.

Thanks to both of you, makes sense to have it at the same height as turning center, I just hadn't thought of it. I'm going to try mostly freehand, so I might make it a bit higher.

Nailer, thanks for posting the pics too.
