OK - This is not a political post!!! Please, please keep it that way.

I moved to Texas 5 years ago last month and it has been an illuminating experience. It is amazingly diverse and has broken a lot of my stereotypes.

When I moved here I kept hearing about "The Germans." At first I wondered if it was residual from WWII. Well, it turns out there are a ton of Germans around here. Perhaps some have tried one of the local German beers: Shiner Bock from the Spoetzl brewery.

Well, we have an interesting political figure down here who is a walking enigma. His name is Kinky Friedman and he is a Jewish cowboy, poet, musician, humorist who has turned into a politician. He is making his second run for Governor.

No worries about him running for president. I don't think the nation is ready for someone who used to lead a band called:

Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys :)

Whatever side of the fence you live on, you've got to admit he is entertaining.

Send him to Minnesota. He'd be a shoo-in.

Funny you mention that . . . . In Kinky's last election Jesse Ventura came down to help him strategize for the election. The event was hosted at Willie Nelson's ranch just down the road from me.

If you've never read one of his books, you're in for a hoot. Again, love him or hate him he's very entertaining.

No matter what party he's with Kinky is " Texan ".

I just wished all politicians had a little Kinky in them, wait a minute, let me rephrase that statement, we already have too many that come to mind. :D

The SWMBO is from Texas and used to get Texas Monthly mag. The Kinkster used to be a regular columnist. When he first started to run for governor, he gave up the column so the didn't have to give equal time or something like that. Once he left so did we. One of the most entertaining columns in print

Rockfish,

Read his books, start from the beginning (order of the books that is!)
He is a true humorist, and has some good insights.

Glad you found him

Eric
