Well I'm not from there, but I've been through there many times on my way to The Ice and back. I also work with many who've spent a good deal of time on both the North and South Islands. If you have some questions, shoot them to me. If I don't know, I'm sure I can find out for you real quick.

Some bits I know:

Some of the best Fly Fishing in the world is there, and they have laws in place that allow you to cross people's private property to access the river.

Christchurch is a must see.

Sea Kayaking around Wellington is fantastic.

Akaroa on the South side of the Banks Penninsula is beautiful and a good place to swim with Dolphins.

Fiordland, South West side of the South Island is also a must see.

Scuba diving is good, but a lot colder than the Great Barrier Reef.

Sailing is great anywhere.

When you fly into Aukland, they have a second terminal that you have to either walk to or take a bus to, about 100 m, to get to the Domestic flights.

Beautiful country and lots to see and do. Just remeber though, they drive on the worng side of the road.

Kewl Turnpike, but, not the Zealand I was looking for. :D :D
Temps are too coooooooooooooooooooollllllllllll for me in that part of the world. lol.
Ice, your info sounds good and adventurous, may have to look into some of that.
Ice, what are the temps there that you have experienced? I see on the website that it is somewhere between 19C for a hi and 12 C for a low, but, this is the average. Can you add anything to that?

It's late winter there now, coming into early spring, so it's gonna be cool to be sure. If you head for the mountains on the South Island, be prepared for winter. To be honest, I've only been there in early to mid Summer and it can be sweltering at times, 85C+. They usually get a good amount of rain around October, Spring showers and all that.

I'll ask around today to some who are heading there within the next couple of weeks, to see if they can shed some more light on the situation on the ground there this time of year.
