Good old weatherman with his 42 degree prediction lulled this naturally lazy guy into believing he didn't have to cover. Top squash and pumpkin leaves are gone, late potatoes still look good. Beans gone. Oh well, it was almost September.

There were few things I liked about California. Long season gardening was one.

Down here in southern LA, the last season crops are being sold to be planted now. We have a good 4 months of growing season left. Plus the cold weather plants, cabbages and etc grow all winter down here. Here, it sometimes gets too hot for some plants. They do better with some kind of sun screen on top, or planted either under or near trees to cut down on the the fierce summer sun.

:)

not too bad here... 76 this week...

for a low (at night!)

If we had pumpkins they would be dried up and screaming for sunblock...

We had 37 degrees here on Sunday morning. Way too early for that. Normal first frost date is September 15. We need at least 3 weeks past that for crop maturity.

We're not that much farther north than you, and it was just a fluke I guess. Was reading in the paper the other day how it was supposed to be a gentle autumn. My own fault, but I'm going to set up the wires to cover, because tonight they've actually put out a frost warning.

We generally consider July 3 as the last late frost and July 5 as the first early.

I think it was about 43 here Saturday when we took off on the trike for a breakfast run.

I was toasty tho, had my heated liner on :D

Some trees starting to yellow around here and beans are turning, black birds are flocking together already, looks like a very early fall.

Cool, dry Summer for the most part, very unusual.

Vicki

one of these days our high is going to drop below 100... it was 101 the other day and LOML commented that it may be getting too cold to use the pool... wouldn't want the kids getting sick

When I went out to my van this morning, I decided that the AC had to be turned off, and that the heater was due for a bit of a 'warm-up' after the summer. about 5 minutes later and it was nice and toasty in there for my commute this morning.

That's pretty bad Tommy!! So, where is Brock TX? Doesn't pop up on Google maps.

We are getting more cool weather. At 2:30 PM it is only 90F. It is nice to finally have a break in the heat. I should make it back out to the shop soon.

BTW, here is a picture of Lake Travis which is the main water supply for the area. Look at the steps/bridge in the top center of the photo. The water is normally part way up that.

Brock is about 12 miles west of Weatherford Texas,,,40 miles west of Ft.Worth,,,These pictures are from Al Asad Iraq where I am working right now. The thermometer pic was taken about 10 am,,it gets warm over here really quick in the morning, the dirt devils go for about 500 to 600 ft tall,,something to see

Take care,,,Tommy

Rockfish, is that a boat ramp I see at the upper left hand side?

Unless a big rain, and I mean a really big rain comes along it's going take awhile to get Travis back to a decent level again.

Starting to get a little rain around here, in August we had 1.89" total, and most of that came in three or four rain showers.

Tommy - Thanks for the clarification. At first I thought those pictures were from somewhere in West Texas I didn't know about.

Thanks also for serving in Iraq. Semper Fi!!

Allen - great eye! It sure looks like a boat ramp. Trying to figure out where the water line would be based on the surrounding vegetation.

(BTW, I didn't take the photo. Following the lead of many journalists, I reported on a photo I didn't take, without regard to to the context in which the photo was taken, to make a point that is important to me. Since the lake is indeed empty, I hope you will forgive me. ;) )

If things are consistent, when it starts raining again we will be praying for it to stop. During the downpour a couple years ago I saw the lake rise 1' for every inch of rain. Most of the Hill Country rain ends up in this lake at some point.

Austin had some rain last week, but it missed my house. Due to the geographical features, most of the really nasty weather (tornadoes, hail, etc) travels about 10 miles north of me. Most of the time I like that. However, I do miss out on some rain.
