Hi guys,

My husband is lucky to be alive. Some idiot in a pickup truck, rear-ended him Friday morning, and it totaled our extended cab van, as per the deputy sheriff, our insurance, and the idiot's insurance. The idiot, by his own admission to the officer, was totally at fault. The accident was so serious, it buckled our van in the middle, and when the trailer hitch went underneath, it broke the axle and all things steel underneath. The trailer hitch is what kept my husband from being killed. Injuries, if any, have not manifested at this time. RJ had gone to the store, I was home sound asleep, but woke up at 0700 - to what sounded like a door slamming. The idiot hit our van at 0700. We are very lucky he is alive.

Jiggy

Thank God RJ is OK. Now, if you hurry up, you can maybe get in on the "Cash For Clunkers" deal, it ends at 8pm tonight. But I think it needs to still be running to qualify.

Whatever you buy, make sure it has a Ford Blue Oval on it!

Keep us posted on how RJ is doing.

Trish,
Glad to hear RJ is okay. Hope it stays that way.

Also glad that the "idiot" admitted fault. Doesnt make it go away, but makes the process easier.

There is nothing nice about a road crash.

Take care, the both of you!

Glad RJ is ok. Sorry about the van.

Jiggy,
having been rear-ended about 16 yrs ago, I cringe at the thought. Whiplash is nothing to be ignored. I'm certain that RJ was/is sore still, keep on top of that, as I did not and have recurring issues (unexplained aches and pains where I was hurt (had 4 ribs come out of joint) (so far minor ones) which crop up every now and again.

And vans, however nice they are/were are replaceable as you well know. I hope he heals quickly and fully.

Somewhere there is a village which is missing an idiot. I guess this proves that the idiots are multiplying. A driver's license does not in any way guarantee the presence of intelligence.

That was close. Glad RJ seems to be okay and like everyone has already stated keep an eye on him the next few days.

Sheesh.

At least the idiot had insurance

RJ is going to be a sore fella for several days I am sure, make sure that he goes to the doctor if he is feeling worse.

Well, Trisha, I've had whiplash three times....please make sure RJ goes to the Dr.

I'm so glad the accident wasn't any worse. You can replace the woodhauler, but you sure can't replace that husband of yours

The insurance companys are going to try and get you to settle fast. Whiplash does not always show up quickly, it can take days to weeks.

Don't settle for just replacing the vehicle. Once you settle anything that shows up later you will be out of pocket with.

You have to get enough to cover something that may show up later and they want to settle before more damage shows up. Both sides have risk. I would rather the insurance co's pay a little more then for you to have to pay for medical out of pocket.

Give it a week or two to see what happens.

RJ said he's too mean and tough to die! :D Doc gave him a clean bill of health today. I DID warn him, that sometimes it takes awhile, for things to show up. But what do I know, I'm just the little old wife.

Of course they will want to settle real fast. They are scared of a lawsuit more than anything. The price has to be right before he settles. Today's visit with the doc is covered however. As is his watch band. The impact, I believe RJ called it G-force (?), broke it right off of his wrist, into a few pieces. Oh yeah, the wreck was just about 4 miles from home.

Here's a pic of my used to be 7 passenger FORD Aerostar van...

See "now demolished"

It was my birthday gift last November.

I was rear-ended too, about 20 years ago. You guys are right, it is noooo picnic.

One guy that we were talking with today, works for the city, and he had heard that it was one nasty wreck. I could not believe the underneath side, and the buckling when I saw it on Saturday. RJ said if the trailer hitch had not been there, that the van would have looked like an accordian.

Hopefully, things will stay ok with him.

Thanks guys!

Jiggy

Surprisingly, Vicki, he's not sore.  If he does get sore, hurting, whatever, I'll get out the whips and chains :D  and make certain he goes to the ER!

KY law mandates car insurance. They'll pull tags in a heartbeat, if one doesn't have it. Fortunately, we - and the idiot, both have full coverage.

Nor do I want to replace him, Verna! Besides that, if anyone is going to do him in, guess who gets to do it! Moi of course - it's a Mars/Venus thingy. :D

I must be having a pre senior moment!, I forgot your first name! :( Sorry.

Oh, there won't be any hassle with his insurance company. They have been bending over backwards to take care of things. They even had a rental car for us that afternoon. It did help, though, that the deputy sheriff called our insurance company (after I did), and gave them a full report, so we wouldn't have to wait till today, to get the rental. Our insurance then faxed the report, over to his (the idiot) insurance place. All in all, if one is going to be in a wreck, our insurance and his insurance, are good people to have. Both are excellent companies.

Thank goodness he's OK Trisha,
I was rear ended twice in about 4 weeks a while back.
First dented the rear hatck (but my tow bar went straight throgh the dozy idiot's rad  )
Second totalled the car and forced me to get my current vehicle...a Honda CRV.

As people say, back problems often manifest well after the event.

Hope it all works out OK for you both.

Ray

Speaking from my recent wreck, in Feb. They can settle the car replacement quickly, but wait on the medical. I just signed-off on my medical this month.
