Hang in there turnpike. If I can quit, anyone can quit.
Its been close to 25 years for me. and I quit cold turkey...
I had had a couple bouts of asthmatic bronchitis and after I had recovered I got out of breath walking down the hall at work and I said to myself, thats it. Your gonna kill yourself or end up like the guy down in the shop, who walked around with a tank of O2, and turned it off when he went outside to take a smoke. That was it for me. Never took another drag of anything.
Now I am a typical ex-smoker. Cant stand the smell of it on anyone. Cant stand the smell of it in anyones house or car. Cant stand to be near anyone who smokes cause it stinks so bad. Dont know how I did it and thought I was hiding it from my mom...
It was rough at first. Its the habit thats hard to quit also, not just the adiction to the nicotine. Its getting into the car and NOT lighting up. Its having a drink WITH OUT a smoke. Its NOT having a smoke when your nervous or upset about something, (gotta have a smoke cause this or that is going on).. Its those things..
But believe me, you WILL do it. You will find what to do with your hands WITHOUT a cigarette in them. It will take time, but you WILL do it...
Every time you make it through another minute or hour or day without a smoke, pat yourself on the back... Only you (or another ex smoker) knows what a HARD thing you are doing.
But we also know how much BETTER you will feel as each day goes by also..
Congratulate YOURSELF on a job WELL DONE....
