I'm working on a shadow box for my FIL who was Navy in WWII. So the wife wanted it to be in the shape of a ships wheel. He wants it small, so I'm going with a Half-Ships wheel design.
At any rate, I turned the handles for the wheel this weekend. It was the first time I've ever turned matching pieces. I found right up front, that it takes about 4 times as long to turn the second one than it did the first, but the more you turn the same shape, the faster it goes.
The first was a prototype turned from Poplar, and the rest are production turned from Walnut.
I'm thinking, if I have enough time, that I might turn one or two more. I just have to be careful not to get carried away. It is only a half wheel.
