Well, how did the Perseid Meteor shower look from your location?

I got up at 2:00 am and drove 12 miles east of El Dorado and arrive at my "viewing site" at about 2:30 am. This being my first shower experience, I was a little slow on the recognition of what I was looking for. As I got out of the car I thought I saw a meteor zip by, but caught it me a little by surprise. With the moon so close I was a little frustrated, but waited and adjusted and learned. By 2:50 I was catching on and in the next 20 -25 minutes I was able to see approx 25 bright meteors and think I saw a few fainter.

With the moon so close and bright, I don't think it qualified as a "shower" but I at least know what to look for now in the future. Can't wait for the next hopefully around a new moon on the other side of the sky.

I went out twice last night to armadillo-proof the yard and looked for meteors.

No such luck. Didn't see a single one. :(

So THAT'S why the weasels were up so late.... playing Barry so loudly... eating rocky road ice cream...

No chance to get out, and with the near full moon seeing was so-so.

Sounds as if the Leonids will produce a good show this year, the peak will occure Nov. 17th, reports are that in Asia the rate will be around 500 per hour, in the states the rate will be quite a bit smaller, under 80 , but it will be very close to the new moon so better viewing.

Same thing for the Geminids, Dec. 13th, they always but on a good show, very close to the new moon.

Cloudy and rain, no meteors.

Hey Rick,

I was out on the deck brushing my teeth before bed, a couple of nights ago and saw one go by. The past couple of nights have been to cloudy, so I guess I got lucky. There's a lot of light pollution in my area too.
