Is up - and VERY interesting...

What's the most you have ever spent on a single woodworking tool?

I was the second one voting and the first to leave a comment. I'll stop back later in the week and see how others voted.

Voted, but also read the article after your Poll. I actually have 2 of the utilikilts. One of the original and one of the survivor. I am not as brave as some of the others that wear them so there is something covering underneath. . . LOL

Yes, I have 3 in the same category....I almost forgot the most expensive of the three

It can be an expensive hobby, but if you look carefully, you can find some great deals on gently used tools.

Being cheap most of my good stuff is used and in the $500 - $750 and the most expensive new tool also falls in the that category.

It's not being cheap... it's being realistic. I dunno if I can justify kicking in some big bucks for a tool... remember, I'm STILL a hobby woodworker! :D

Just spent the most I've ever spent on a single tool on my incoming carvewright... this is also the most I've ever stepped out on a limb regarding a tool--

My most expensive one is my MinMax 18" bandsaw - I paid $700.00 used and I love it. Most of my equipment has been used or a floor modle (like my Ridgid table saw - $125.00 and missing fence parts - now it has a Shop Fox Byesmeyer (sp?) clone. My most "extravagant" tool has been $350.00 spent for a Clayton spindle sander. It is a small commercial unit and built like a tank. I told LOML I HAD to buy it - it had my name on it! :D

My MM16 that bought new ~$1800. It is worth every penney. Wish could have found a deal like Clay. Most everything else is used but good, eg TS is an old Delta/Rockwell 1940's vintage cabinet saw cost $100.

It appears I'm in the sweet spot of the poll - 500 - 750. This will be very useful in convincing LOML that I'm not crazy with this hobby. Thanks for the ammunition...

Eleven hundred for a planer in '84 was a LOT more as a percentage of income than it is now. Lot more machine, too. Still have the receipt stapled inside the cover of the manual.

Spent most of my per diem from a trip for Uncle Sam on that planer. Thousands of BF later, I don't regret it.

So far my most expensive tool is my Rikon band saw. $750.00. I expect that will always be the case, I'm sure I won't spend that much for a machine again.

Only one tool went over $800 and that was my 4224 Powermatic Lathe and it was used. It went 1k past the max on the pole.
